Derek Needham scored 17 points and Maurice Barrow added 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead Fairfield to a 70-55 win over Canisius on Monday night.

The Stags (17-4, 10-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) have won five straight and 16 of their last 17 games dating back to a 60-51 loss against Saint Joseph's (Pa.) on Nov. 23.

Yorel Hawkins added 12 points and Jamel Fields had 11 for Fairfield.

The Golden Griffins (10-11, 4-7) went 9 for 30 from the floor (30 percent) in the opening half and trailed 33-25 at the break. Canisius was outrebounded 42-33 and never led after the 19:12 mark of the opening half.

Alshwan Hymes scored 16 points and Elton Frazier added 10 for the Golden Griffins, whose 55-point output is tied for their lowest of the season.

The Stags are currently the second-best scoring defense in the country, allowing 55 points per game.
