TORONTO (Reuters) - Veteran forward Kyle Wellwood was plucked off re-entry waivers by the San Jose Sharks, the NHL said Tuesday.

Wellwood, who played 25 games for KHL team Mytishchi Atlant this season, had agreed to a one-year contract with the St. Louis Blues on Monday but had to pass through the re-entry waivers where he was claimed by the Sharks.

Taken in the fifth round of the 2001 NHL draft, Wellwood spent four seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs before moving to the Vancouver Canucks in 2008.

In 338 career NHL games, Wellwood has scored 63 goals and 160 points.
