MIAMI (Reuters) - The University of Florida on Monday confirmed the hiring of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Charlie Weis to run the Gators' offense for new coach Will Muschamp.

After one season with the Chiefs, Weis will depart for Gainesville to join up with his son, who will also be on Muschamp's staff as a Florida student.

Weis will remain with the NFC West-winning Chiefs until the end of their playoff run. Kansas City (10-6) hosts the Baltimore Ravens (12-4) Sunday in the first round of the postseason.

"Charlie's a family guy," Haley told reporters. "He can go to Florida and be with his son, who's gonna get into coaching. This is a great situation for Charlie."

The Chiefs rank 12th in offense in the 32-team NFL.
