Josten Crow and Marcus James each scored 12 points to lead Sam Houston State to a 64-48 victory over Western New Mexico on Wednesday night at the Sun Bowl Invitational.

Lance Pevehouse added 11 points and Marcus Williams 10 for the Bearkats (7-5), who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Chad Carter scored a game-high 13 points to led the Mustangs (3-9), who lost their third in a row. Chuck Kempf had eight rebounds and four steals.

The Bearkats never trailed, jumping to an 11-2 lead. That turned into a 35-22 halftime advantage and a 25-point lead in the second half before the Mustangs closed the gap late.

Sam Houston State shot only 42.4 percent (25 of 59), but Western Mexico was ice-cold at 29.3 percent (17 of 58) and hit only 6 of 33 3-pointers.

James had a season-high 10 rebounds to pace Sam Houston State's 49-32 edge.
