Barcelona was tied 0-0 by visiting Athletic Bilbao on Tuesday night in the first leg of the fifth round of Spain's Copa del Rey, a rare slip that ended Barca's 10-game winning streak but extended its unbeaten run to 23 matches.

Lionel Messi and David Villa entered as early second-half substitutes but failed to spark the Blaugrana. The second leg of the total-goals series is at Bilbao on Jan. 5.

"It is a shame because we had been playing well," Barcelona forward Pedro Rodriguez said, "They defended well. It was difficult to find spaces and we lacked precision in our shots.

Heading into the Christmas break, Barcelona has 21 wins, 2 losses and 4 draws in all competitions and has outscored opponents 77-16.

Barcelona is 14-1-1 in La Liga, 4-0-2 in the Champions League, 2-0-1 in the Copa del Rey and 1-1 in the Spanish Super Cup, which it won on aggregate for its first trophy of the season.

The Blaugrana have scored five or more goals seven times, including five occasions in La Liga, where it has a two-point lead over second-place Real Madrid and a 51-9 goal difference. Barcelona has a 10-game league winning streak, five shy of the record set by Real Madrid in 1960-61. With 22 league games remaining, Barcelona is on pace to shatter the La Liga goals record of 107 set by Real Madrid in 1989-90.
