Renney replaces Pat Quinn, who will become a senior adviser, the Oilers said Tuesday on their website (http://oilers.nhl.com/).

"Tom Renney's track record not only speaks for itself, but it also speaks volumes about what type of person he is," Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini said in a statement.

"Tom is so well respected among his peers in the National Hockey League and throughout the international hockey circles thanks to his dedication and success at so many different levels."

During a nine-year NHL career, Quinn scored 18 goals and had 113 assists in 606 games.

The Oilers were 27-47-8 last season, earning an NHL-low 62 points.
