When Sherron Collins hit the game-winning shot at Kansas State on Saturday night, Kansas guard Brady Morningstar had to know that's all anyone would ask about afterward.
Sure enough, Morningstar fielded questions about his clutch teammate. Including one about the, shall we say, testicular fortitude Collins showed in the 81-79 win.
"We'll to have put 'em on top of the bus to get them home," he said.
Collins is tough, fearless and a guy I'd want taking the big shot with the game on the line because he can create his own shot, is talented and has, well, you know.
But Collins isn't alone. Here are a few other guys I'd take if I needed a game-winner:
2) Scottie Reynolds, Villanova -- Nova's guard has done it multiple times in his career.
3) Devan Downey, South Carolina -- He's so quick and has some of the same attributes Collins does.
4) John Wall, Kentucky -- Showed he wasn't scared when he made huge plays with the game on the line early in his freshman campaign.
5) Randy Culpepper, UTEP -- Is a big-time perimeter shooter and will find a way to get his shot off despite his lack of size.
6) Matt Bouldin, Gonzaga -- So mentally tough and finds a way to get his shot off despite lacking the quickness and athleticism of some of the other guys on this list.
7) Evan Turner, Ohio State -- May not be the prototypical point guard, but uses angles well and isn't scared with the game on the line.
8) Jordan Crawford, Xavier -- If you saw the shot he made in the closing seconds of the win against Dayton, you know why he's on my list.
9) Dominique Jones, South Florida -- A scoring machine who doesn't lack confidence. It's not always pretty, but Jones knows how to create for himself and put the ball in the basket.
10) Jake Pullen, Kansas State -- No matter whether he's 0-for-10 or 10-for-10, the Chicago native wants the ball at crunch-time -- and there's no fear.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: South Carolina lost its second-best player, Dominique Archie, off a thin team early in the season. The Gamecocks struggled, losing to Wofford and Boston College. However, Darrin Horn's team pulled off a huge upset against the nation's final unbeaten team, Kentucky, this past week in Columbia -- and then got past Georgia. Devan Downey was spectacular with 30 points against the Wildcats and then had 33 in the victory over Georgia.
STUD (PLAYER OF WEEK): South Florida's Dominique Jones is a marked man, especially with teammate Gus Gilchrist on the shelf for the past month or so. However, Jones had been nearly unstoppable the last couple of weeks. He had 37 points and eight rebounds in a win against Pittsburgh and had 28 in a victory over Seton Hall to give the Bulls three consecutive Big East wins for the first time since joining the league.
BEST PERFORMANCE: Courtney Fortson, Arkansas' point guard who missed the first half of the season, scoring 33 points after the break in a win against Mississippi State. Fortson totaled the same number of points in the second half as the entire Bulldogs team.
DUD: North Carolina not just losing at home to Virginia, but getting drilled. The Tar Heels fell to 13-8 overall and 2-4 in ACC play and got just a combined 11 points and 11 rebounds from the frontline duo of Deon Thompson and Ed Davis.
WEEK TO FORGET: Exactly one week after knocking off then-No. 1 Texas, the UConn Huskies went through a stretch in which they lost on the road to Providence and at home against Marquette. With their coach, Jim Calhoun, still on medical leave, the Huskies are in desperation mode if they want to make the NCAA tournament.
MID-MAJOR TEAM OF THE WEEK: UNC Asheville knocked off Big South defending champion Radford to win its seventh straight game. Matt Dickey tied his career-high with 26 points as the Bulldogs moved into a second-place tie in the league. UNC Asheville, which lost big man Kenny George last year, also knocked off High Point this past week.
WORST LOSS: Notre Dame could wind up being a bubble team come March, but a loss against a Rutgers team that hadn't won a Big East game won't aid the case of Mike Brey and Luke Harangody. This one is going to sting.
SHOT OF THE WEEK: Kansas senior point guard Sherron Collins' drive in the final seconds that proved to be the game-winner at Bramlage against Kansas State. Collins is about as tough and fearless as anyone in college basketball.
WELCOME BACK: You'd never know it by looking at the box scores, but Purdue got a huge lift when starting point guard Lewis Jackson made his season debut against Wisconsin last week. Jackson, who has missed the entire season due to surgery on his foot, played a dozen minutes and scored two points against Wisconsin and then had two points and two assists in 17 minutes of action against Penn State -- also a victory.
ANOTHER ONE DOWN: When UNC Wilmington parted ways with coach Benny Moss, he became the fifth coaching casualty since the season began, joining Dartmouth and Penn from the Ivy League as well as Fordham and DePaul.
WEEK'S TOP MATCHUPS:
1. Villanova at Georgetown, Saturday at 12 p.m. ET -- Jay Wright team gets a chance to get a huge road win against another Top 10.
2. Georgia Tech at Duke, Thursday at 7 p.m. -- If the Yellow Jackets get the win in Cameron, the ACC would completely open up.
3. Michigan State at Wisconsin, Tuesday at 9 p.m. -- The Spartans take their flawless Big Ten mark on the road to Madison -- where it's never easy to come back with a win.
4. Texas at Oklahoma State, Monday at 9 p.m. -- The Longhorns need a win to turn it around, but it won't be easy on the road against James Anderson and the Cowboys.
5. Mississippi at Kentucky, Tuesday at 7 p.m. -- Ole Miss is coming off a loss at home to Arkansas, but the Rebels do possess athletic guards. The key will be whether they have anyone to slow down DeMarcus Cousins and Patrick Patterson.
6. UConn at Louisville, Monday at 7 p.m. -- Two Big East powers with Hall of Fame coaches that desperately need a resume win.
