Toronto, Canada – NEW YORK (Reuters) - Dallas Stars center Mike Ribeiro will be out for four to six weeks with a throat injury suffered against the New York Rangers, the team said on Thursday.
Ribeiro had surgery at a Manhattan hospital on Wednesday night to repair a throat contusion, the team said on its website (http://stars.nhl.com). He was expected to remain in the hospital for a few days before returning to Dallas.
The 29-year-old suffered the injury when he was hit in the neck by the stick of New York forward Chris Higgins during the second period of Wednesday's 5-2 Rangers victory.
Higgins was assessed a two-minute minor penalty on the play.
Ribeiro has 10 goals and 23 assists this season.
