The sun shines brightly on Scott McNealy. First, the former head of Sun Microsystems sold the legendary Silicon Valley company to Oracle in 2010.

And, now, McNealy has also shed his custom-built home in Portola Valley, CA. The final price tag: $4,275,000.

It's considerably less than the $5.5 million he was asking for almost a year ago. The forecast: Not quite as sunny, but he's still basking in the rays of the multimillion-dollar sale.

The home's listing notes say the cost of construction in 2006 "greatly exceeds the price." It's safe to say the buyer picked up a bargain on this luxury build.

The 7,280-square-foot, four-bedroom home features a three-story foyer, a cozy but modern kitchen, and an airy family room with exposed wood beams and french doors that open to the patio.

Outside, a patio, kitchen, and fireplace provide a picturesque setting for alfresco dining and entertainment.

The legendary exec has left the valley behind for his new role as CEO of the Denver-based startup Wayin.
