Go figure.
Republican presidential candidates usually go out of their way to demonstrate just how pro-life they are on the issue of abortion.
Saturday, at an Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition event, Cain told an audience estimated at 1,000 he was solidly against abortion. This, after a pair of television interviews (one on Fox News Channel in July and another on CNN this month) where Cain suggested government did not have a role on this issue.
And with pro-life Evangelical Christians such a dominant force in Iowa Republican politics, care to guess how many of the GOP candidates have appeared before the governing board of Iowa Right To Life?
Congratulations to those who guessed one. You are correct.
Jenifer Bowen , executive director of Iowa Right To Life, says Rick Santorum is the only candidate to appear before the organization's board of more than two-dozen members.
Previously, Bowen herself has met and spoke with Michele Bachmann and Newt Gingrich (for the first time on Saturday at the IFFC event).
IRTL does have a political action committee and with it, the freedom to offer an endorsement or ‘pro-life friendly candidates' list...if it chose to do so. And with all of the Republican campaigns still building out their Iowa organizations, Bowen notes IRTL's supporters number in the "thousands...who will go out no matter the weather" for their cause.
Just the type of folks campaigns need to herd caucus-goers on a frosty January evening.
