Former President Jimmy Carter underwent elective surgery on his liver and is expected to make a full recovery, the Carter Center said Monday.
The 90-year-old former Democratic president had the procedure performed at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
According to his office, the surgery was conducted to "remove a small mass in his liver."
"His operation proceeded without issues, and the prognosis is excellent for a full recovery," the Carter Center said.
