President Donald Trump's announcement of Neil Gorsuch as his nominee to fill the ninth seat on the Supreme Court was met with a firestorm of reactions on social media from detractors and supporters alike.
Gorsuch, 49, serves on the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver and is seen as a jurist in the model of conservative Supreme Court Justice Scalia.
Here's a sampling of what was said in support of Gorsuch by National Review editor Charles C.W. Cooke, radio host Larry Elder, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, Republican strategist Rory Cooper, Chuck Woolery and Ohio Gov. John Kasich:
Gorsuch is as good as it gets. First-rate intellect. Has integrity. Writes brilliantly. And, most important, he treats his role properly.— Charles C. W. Cooke (@charlescwcooke) February 1, 2017
The Dems are no doubt busy trying to figure out how they can brand Judge Neil Gorsuch as "racist." Just give them time.#NeilGorsuch— Larry Elder (@larryelder) February 1, 2017
Gorsuch mentions his faith, the importance of the constitution, and liberty.— Charlie Kirk (@charliekirk11) February 1, 2017
SCOTUS pick was sole rationale for supporting Trump for many conservatives. Gorsuch is a very good pick for them.— Rory Cooper (@rorycooper) February 1, 2017
Judge Gorsuch. "I am honored and I am humbled. Thank you." Now the Democrats will start the Smear. You know it's coming.— Chuck Woolery (@chuckwoolery) February 1, 2017
Here is some of what was said against him by Rosie O'Donnell, Igor Volsky of the Center for American Progress, Mia Farrow, Talking Points Memo founder Josh Marshall and MSNBC's Joy Reid:

This is the moment Trump pays back the Christian right, which ignored every one of its own principles to support him in exchange for SCOTUS.— Joy Reid (@JoyAnnReid) February 1, 2017
As we're looking for someone to restore democracy & fairness, Trump nominated the guy who says corporations can deny women birth control— igorvolsky (@igorvolsky) February 1, 2017
Remember, Gorsuch will never be a legitimate Justice. The fruit of a corrupt act.— Josh Marshall (@joshtpm) February 1, 2017
With all due respect for the two Justices, Merrick Garland should have at least had a hearing pic.twitter.com/WrkgIKmdjW— Mia Farrow (@MiaFarrow) February 1, 2017
