GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump said Border Patrol agents have been ordered to allow undocumented immigrants into the U.S. so they can vote.

He attributed the startling statement to Art del Cueto, vice president of the National Border Patrol Council, the union for border agents.

Trump called the revelation a huge story.

“They are letting people pour into this country so they can go and vote,” Trump said during a meeting with five border agents Friday at Trump Tower in New York City, according to a pool report. “…You hear a thing like that, it’s a disgrace.”

Trump received the endorsement of the border patrol union, and del Cueto said that agents had told him they had directives to ignore immigrants' criminal records and not deport them.

“So they can vote,” del Cueto added.

Under the law, immigrants are not permitted to vote until they obtain U.S. citizenship.

Trump has repeatedly said he fears the election will be rigged against him. He has made a hardline stance on immigration the centerpiece of his campaign.
