Bernie Sanders slammed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for being too eager to hastily engage in regime change, and as a result she has made the Middle East more unstable.
"Our differences are very deep on this issue," Sanders said of Clinton's views on taking out Bashar Assad in Syria. "We disagree on the war in Iraq, we both listened to the information from Bush and Cheney, I voted against the war. But I think, and I say this with due respect, I worry too much that Secretary Clinton is too much into regime change and a little bit too aggressive without knowing what the unintended consequences might be."
Clinton responded that it would be a "grave mistake" to ask for any more Iranian troops inside Syria, as it would be like asking "to throw gas on a fire." She also pointed out that Sanders had supported the war for regime change in Libya.
Sanders added, "Yes, we could get rid of Assad tomorrow, but that would create another political vacuum that would help ISIS. So yes, regime change is easy, getting rid of dictators is easy. But, before you do that, you have get to think about what happens the day after. And in my opinion we have to put together more coalitions."
