Sanders promises chance at a 'major political upset'

No matter what the polls say, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is gearing up for battle with front-runner Hillary Clinton in Iowa and banking on a win in New Hampshire.

"We've come a long, long way over the past seven and a half months," Sanders said at a town hall event Monday afternoon in New Hampshire. "We can win Iowa and I think we had a good chance to do that … and I think we can win in New Hampshire. If we can win in Iowa and win in New Hampshire I think we have a real path to victory and one of the major political upsets in the history of our country."

Sanders currently leads Clinton in most New Hampshire polls. The socialist senator has represented neighboring Vermont in Congress since the 1990s and the nation's first primary state has generally been open to insurgent candidacies. But he has a tougher challenge in Iowa, where most polls show him trailing Clinton less than two months out from the caucuses.
