A group of Republican National Committee senior staffers met with Donald Trump's presidential campaign Wednesday to discuss a plan of action should the current Republican front-runner win the party's nomination.

The meeting, which took place in New York City, has since been confirmed by an RNC source to the Washington Examiner.

According to an initial report by NBC News, an RNC official claimed it is "standard and common" to meet with campaigns during the presidential primary season to discuss the committee's general election strategy. Meetings with other campaigns have reportedly taken place, but the same RNC official declined to name which ones.

"That's the beauty of the committee — [we] can talk directly with the campaigns and be open about what our efforts are to prepare for the eventual nominee," the RNC staffer was quoted as saying.
