Final deal eludes negotiators in Paris climate talks

The Paris climate talks will extend into the weekend, after French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius announced the final draft of an agreement to curb emissions from major countries won't be released until Saturday.

The news comes on the morning of the final scheduled day of the conference, when it was expected a final agreement would be released. A draft released Thursday showed considerable progress but there were still a number of key sticking points yet to be worked out.

The announcement came about 3 a.m. ET after another late night of negotiations in Paris.

Fabius, the president of the 21st Conference of the Parties, said Thursday the remaining areas of debate revolve around funding for poor countries, the amount of responsibility poor countries will have to bear in fighting climate change as opposed to richer nations, and how aggressively countries should try to limit global temperature increases in the coming decades.
