Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., has sent a letter to Republican congressional leaders urging them to take further action in upcoming spending legislation to "completely shield" taxpayers from a potential multibillion dollar bailout of insurers losing money through Obamacare.

"So far we've succeeded in stopping the Obama Administration from bailing out health insurance companies under ObamaCare, and it's critical that Congress once again stand with taxpayers to stop any taxpayer-funded bailout of health insurers from happening," Rubio wrote in the letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and other top congressional leaders on Tuesday.

Rubio's letter comes as the Republican presidential candidate is aiming to highlight his role in preventing a taxpayer-funded bailout of Obamacare insurers (so far) and ahead of a Dec. 11 deadline for lawmakers to pass a spending bill.
