The Canadian government will announce plans Tuesday to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees by Dec. 31.

Newly elected Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday that Canadian leaders will stand by a pledge made earlier this year to accept refugees despite recent pushback from citizens.

"Everyone agrees that Canada must do more and must welcome 25,000 refugees," Trudeau told reporters.
