Russian President Vladimir Putin announced to reporters Monday that a number of G-20 members are among the 40 nations financing the Islamic State by purchasing oil from the terrorist group.

Putin said he shared the intelligence with other leaders at the weekend summit, as well as donor-specific information.

"I provided examples based on our data on the financing of different Islamic State units by private individuals. This money, as we have established, comes from 40 countries, and there are some of the G-20 members among them," Putin told the press.

The Islamic State obtains a majority of its $50 million monthly funding by selling crude from captured oil fields in Syria and Iraq. Putin said G-20 members should not support the illegal oil trade.
