The mainstream media's assault on GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson's has only damaged the public's view of the media, with nearly half of Republicans in a new poll saying they trust the surgeon more.
A Google Consumer Surveys poll found that the media's questioning of Carson's stories about his past didn't impact their view of the soft-spoken and generally positive candidate.
The poll, conducted for Independent Journal, showed that the biggest group of respondents trust Carson more, followed by those who had no change in their opinion and then a slight minority on the "trust him less" side.
Older voters, said the IJ analysis, were more likely to feel that Carson is more trustworthy.
The survey comes as Donald Trump joined in bashing Carson, suggesting that he is a "pathological" liar.
