The date for the special election to replace former House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, has been scheduled.

An Associated Press report says Ohio Gov. John Kasich announced Sunday that June 7 is the date for the special election. Whoever gets elected will serve out the remainder of Boehner's term in Congress, which will end in January of 2017. Boehner resigned Saturday, after Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., was elected to replace him as speaker.

A primary for Boehner's seat will occur in the 8th congressional district on March 15, which is the same day as Ohio's presidential primary.

Republican candidates eyeing the vacancy include state Rep. Tim Derickson, state Sen. Bill Beagle, Butler County Auditor Roger Reynolds and Troy teacher J.D. Winteregg, reports the AP.
