A South Carolina sheriff has asked the FBI to investigate an incident involving a white policy officer who body slammed a black female high school student to the ground and then dragged her across the classroom.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said he asked for assistance from the FBI after the encounter between School Resource Officer Ben Fields and the student at Spring Valley High School. According to Lott, Fields was responding to the female student, who refused to leave the classroom after being asked by the teacher.

"The student was told she was under arrest for disturbing school and given instructions which she again refused," Lott said. "The video then shows the student resisting and being arrested by the SRO."

In the first two videos, shot on Monday, Fields approached the girl sitting at her desk, grabbed her arm and put his own arm around her neck. In the third video, put on Instagram, Fields then tried to pick the female student up out of her desk, before she hits him while he brings her and the desk to the ground.
