GOP candidates riff on 'Back to the Future' day

Republican presidential candidates are looking to capitalize on Back to the Future day, also known as Oct. 21, 2015, the day Marty McFly and Doc Brown traveled to in "Back to the Future 2."

Carly Fiorina and Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., both released fundraising pitches late Tuesday based on the film ahead of the official day.

In Fiorina's ad, a voice that sounds like Doc Brown (played by actor Christopher Lloyd in the film) asks, "Oct. 21, 2015? Of course, that's the date people can start changing the future. Do it today, before it's too late."

The spot then features a fundraising website for Fiorina's 2016 campaign.

"Doc Brown needs your help to save our future," the ad says. "Sign up for future transmissions."

Rubio's ad used Democratic nominees Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, who has yet to decide on a bid, as politicians with outdated ideas.

"In 1989, we went back to the future," the ad says, referring to the year the movie was released. "Now that we're here, it's more like blast from the past."
