Webb: My biggest enemy isn't 'around right now to talk to'

Former Marine infantry officer Jim Webb touted his military record in Tuesday night's presidential debate, talking about his battlefield success in killing an enemy in Vietnam.

Asked about the biggest enemy he's created during his political career, Webb said it would have to be the man who threw a grenade at him while serving in Vietnam.

"I'd have to say the enemy soldier that threw the grenade that wounded me, but he's not around right now to talk to," Webb said, leading many on social media to infer that he had killed his attacker in the war.

After graduating from the Naval Academy, Webb served as a rifle platoon and company commander in Vietnam, according to his biography. His received the Navy Cross, Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts for his time in service.
