Ahead of his anticipated president campaign announcement, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has named Washington, D.C., native Danny Diaz to serve as his campaign manager.
Fox News confirmed that the 39-year-old Diaz, a founding member of public affairs and advertising firm FP1 Strategies, will be in charge of running day-to-day campaign operations for Bush.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the first to report the appointment, Diaz has worked for the past three Republican presidential nominees and has been advising Bush ahead of his expected campaign announcement next week.
The son of Spanish immigrants has also worked with newly-elected Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez. Diaz was also a senior adviser to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign and a deputy communications director for John McCain.
Diaz worked in the 2004 re-election campaign of Bush’s brother, former President George W. Bush.
“David can best position us for success by playing a key leadership role focusing on how Jeb wins primaries, caucuses and ultimately the general election,” said Sally Bradshaw, senior adviser to the Bush campaign, told the WSJ. “Danny’s skills in rapidly moving content and campaign organization makes him perfectly suited for running the day-to-day operations.”
Diaz’s appointment continues Bush’s early trend to seek the Hispanic vote early in the campaign, a strategy also apparently adopted by Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton, who appointment former "Dreamer" and outspoken immigration activist Lorella Praeli as her campaign’s Latino Outreach Director.
Bush, 62, served as Florida’s governor from 1999 to 2007. He is expected to announce his campaign for president on June 15 in Miami.
