Nina Easton told viewers Thursday on "Special Report with Bret Baier" that military action should not be off the table in dealing with Russia.

"There is a place for soft military power for a show of force, to show him he shouldn't be messing with NATO countries," Easton, a Fortune magazine columnist and Fox News contributor, said.

Easton's comments came after President Obama announced new sanctions on Russian officials and a Russian bank, but said U.S. officials are still working on resolving the situation through diplomacy.

Easton said she questioned the Obama administration's approach.

"Diplomacy is also about being one step ahead of the guy that you're trying to best. We've been one step behind the entire time, so we're going to wait for them to make moves? We're going to wait for Putin to make his next move before we ratchet it up?" she said.
