Ari Fleischer, former press secretary to President George W. Bush, took to social media Wednesday to offer his first-person account of the events surrounding 9/11 -- from someone standing by the president’s side throughout the day. Quotes from that day and other memorable details were released via Twitter, 12 years after the largest terror  attack in U.S. history.

Fleisher offered a fresh timeline of events that unfolded for the president and his staff as they traveled from an elementary school in Florida to an Air Force Base in Louisiana and then to U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt AFB in Nebraska before heading back to Washington to help heal a wounded nation.

Here are some samples of his tweets, cribbed from his own notes that day:

"Bush: 'I can't wait 2find out who did it. It's going 2take a while & we're not going to have a little slap on the wrist crap.'

"Nine reporters had to stay behind. They weren't happy. Jay Carney was one of them. He was furious."

"Bush to USSS: 'We need to get back to Wash. We don't need some tin horn terrorist to scare us off.'"
