Vice President Joe Biden will headline major Democratic fundraisers in South Carolina and Michigan, two states that could play a major role in the 2016 presidential election.

That's according to two people briefed on the fundraisers, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the trips haven't been publicly announced.

Biden will travel to Detroit in April to address the Michigan Democratic Party's annual Jefferson Jackson Dinner. He'll go to Columbia in May when South Carolina Democrats hold their dinner.

During presidential elections, the state party galas are frequent stops for candidates. South Carolina traditionally holds one of the first primaries of the season, with Michigan soon after.

Biden has not ruled out a presidential run in 2016. A spokeswoman for Biden declined to comment.
