Senator Rick Santorum blasted the recent repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," a ban on gay men and women from serving openly in the military, and told the Orlando crowd at Thursday's Fox News/Google GOP Presidential debate, "Sexual activity has no place in the military."
In a scene that drew perhaps the loudest applause all night, Santorum explained that, "Removing don't ask don't tell I think tries to inject social policy into the military and the military's job is to defend our country. We need to give the military, which is all volunteer, the ability to do so in a way that is most efficient and protective of our men and women in uniform and I believe this undermines that ability."
When moderator Megyn Kelly pressed him on what he would do as President, he fired back, "We are playing social experimentation with our military right now and that's tragic...going forward we would reinstitute that policy if Rick Santorum was president, period."
Santorum acknowledged that he couldn't do much about those men and women currently serving in the military that have admitted to being gay, but concluded by saying, "Sex is not an issue, it should not be an issue, leave it alone and keep it to yourself whether you're a homosexual or a heterosexual."
