House GOP leaders intend to introduce an extension for the FAA to avert a shutdown next week when the current, stopgap FAA bill expires next week, Fox News has learned.
"This is greased," said a senior House aide familiar with the plan.
Sources indicated that the bill could be introduced as early as Friday and would cover FAA programs through the end of the year.
House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., conferred Tuesday about the measure, Fox News has learned.
A failure to approve an extension could shutter many portions of the FAA next week.
The FAA was idled for several days in late July and early August after the House and Senate could not reach a compromise to keep FAA programs running.
The sides finally agreed to an interim extension in early August, halting a shutdown for the entire summer recess traditionally taken by Congress.
