Democrats Wearing Big, Red "So Be It" Buttons at Vote Series

The latest fashion statement in the House chamber...

A number of House Democrats are now sporting large, red buttons that read "So be it."

This is a take on the comment on Tuesday by House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) who declared "So be it," when asked by a reporter about a potential loss of federal jobs as a result of the spending resolution.

Democrats argue that this was a "let them eat cake" moment by Boehner.

They are reportedly the brainchild of Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.).

Spotted wearing the buttons were Reps. Bill Owens (D-N.Y.), Kathy Castor (D-Fla.), Russ Carnahan (D-Mo.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Tim Walz (D-Minn.), Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), Susan Davis (D-Calif.), Lois Capps (D-Calif.) and Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), among others.

The buttons were distributed during the last vote series. Approximately 20 members wearing them.

Sporting one of the buttons: Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), who says the Speaker is taking a very cavalier approach to the issue and is responsible for his comment.

"He says 'so be it' to the plight of workign people and I belive that's his view," said Ellison.

Ellison later wore the button to the House floor during debate on the temporary spending bill to fund the government. He hastily removed the button once someone seemed to ask him to take it off. Congressional rules bar lawmakers from donning apparel that promotes an idealogy or advocates a position when engaging in debate on the House floor.
