Tucson Hospital Where Rep. Giffords Stays Fires 3 for Violation Patients' Privacy

University Medical Center in Tucson, where Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and other victims of Saturday's shooting rampage are being treated, has fired three employees for accessing private patient medical records in violation of hospital policy, FoxNews.com has confirmed.

The hospital wouldn't reveal the number or identities of patients who had their records accessed, or whether any of them were victims of the shooting that left six people dead and 14 others wounded. But hospital spokeswoman Loretta McKenzie told FoxNews.com that the patients had been notified.

In addition to the three clerical staff fired by the hospital, a contracted nurse was terminated.

Giffords remained in critical condition after she was shot once in the head. She is expected to live and has been making progress, including making small movements on her own, tugging at her hospital gown and touching her wounds, one of her doctors said Wednesday. But her long-term outlook remains unclear.
