A multi-billion dollar appeal from retail giant Walmart is now on its way to the high court, the justices announced Monday.

The closely-watched case is a challenge to whether more than a million current and former female workers can join in a class action lawsuit. Walmart says the discrimination claims are overstated and certainly don't rise to level of pervasiveness that comes with an all encompassing lawsuit.

Lawyers for the women say Walmart's corporate culture has for too long and in too many stores across the country prevented women from advancing their careers in a manner similar to their male counterparts.

The justices, as is custom, offered no reason why they took the case which will be one of the higher profile cases they hear next year. Click here to read more about the lawsuit.
