SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer and her Republican challenger, Carly Fiorina, have agreed to their first debate of the fall campaign.
Both campaigns confirmed Friday that the candidates will meet Sept. 1 at St. Mary's College in the eastern San Francisco Bay area city of Moraga. The San Francisco Chronicle, KTVU-TV and KQED public radio are co-sponsors of the hour-long evening debate.
In a statement, Fiorina says she is looking forward to debating Boxer about their "very different approaches" to a range of issues, including job-creation and the role of government.
The former Hewlett-Packard Co. CEO is seeking to prevent Boxer from winning a fourth term in the Senate.
