Later in the morning, the President will address the annual meeting of the Business Council at the Park Hyatt. The President will address the administration’s ongoing efforts to spur job creation and the important role the business community plays in our efforts to rebuild the economy. The President will also discuss the urgent need to pass Wall Street reform and address core principles of reform that will protect consumers and put in place clear rules of the road to help prevent another crisis. Later, the President will have lunch with Holocaust survivor and Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel in the Private Dining Room. This lunch is closed.
In the afternoon, the President and the Vice President will meet with Secretary of Defense Gates in the Oval Office. This meeting is closed.
In addition to the aforementioned events, the Vice President will chair a regular meeting of senior officials to assess progress in Iraq. This meeting is closed.
At 1:00 PM, the Vice President and Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius will make a Recovery Act announcement in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. He will make announce the selection of 15 communities across the country to serve as pilot communities for the eventual wide-scale use of health information technology.
