The budget, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” and intel, Tuesday looks to be a full day on Capitol Hill.

The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence hears from an all-star cast at 2:30p on the “Current and Projected Threats to the United States.” Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair, Central Intelligence Agency Director Leon Panetta, Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Robert Muller, and Defense Intelligence Agency Director Lt Gen Ronald Burgess Jr. testify, Catherine Herridge reports, you decide.

At 11:00a a bipartisan group of Senators meets at 11:00 to introduce legislation that will cut off funding for the trial of the 9/11 conspirators in civilian court. The Senators favor trial by military commission. Shannon Bream reports on the latest developments in this ongoing controversy.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen pull a double shift in front of the Senate Armed Services Committee. In the 9:00a morning session they’ll be talking with members about President Barack Obama’s fiscal year 2010 budget authorization for the Pentagon. After lunch the two will come back at 12:00p to address questions about the repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” sexual orientation policy. Mike Emanuel reports from the Pentagon.

Elsewhere on the Hill, talk of the budget continues. Two cabinet officials start at 10:00a on the Senate side: Office of Management and Budget Director Peter Orszag with the Senate Budget Committee, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner before the Senate Finance Committee. Orszag pulls double duty with a hearing before the House Budget Committee at 2:00p.

In other financial news, Chairman of the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board and former Fed Chairman Paul Volcker testifies at 2:30p before the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee about implementing the “Volcker Rules,” a set of policies to reform the rules of ownership and trading at the nation’s largest commercial banks.
