Major Garrett & Mike Emanuel report that President Obama received an update on the situation in Haiti this afternoon.

An administration official says the President was briefed on search and rescue efforts and an the increase in U.S. presence. The President also spoke with President Sarkozy of France about ongoing U.S. and French relief efforts, and the need for coordination of immediate and long term international efforts to assist the people of Haiti.

The two Presidents agreed to remain in close touch, and to encourage their governments to work together with the government of Haiti in the coming days and weeks.
