Well, not quite yet.
Reports have been circulating Monday that President Obama will head to South Africa next year to attend the opening ceremony of the World Cup finals.
"The president of the United States has been invited to the opening ceremony of the 2010 World Cup. He has accepted our invitation," FIFA president (which is the French acronym for the International Federation of Association Football) Sepp Blatter told reporters in Johannesburg.
With all the global excitement over soccer and President Obama, that headline catching news seemed to drown out Blatter's cautionary warning, "you know that heads of state are extremely busy and hopefully his schedule will allow him to attend."
A White House spokesman tells Fox "this is not a done deal." The aide says it may be something President Obama ends up doing, but it's premature to say Mr Obama will be attending the June 11, 2010 event.
Next year's Cup will be the first staged on African soil. The opening ceremony would be performed at the new 100,000-seat Soccer City stadium on the outskirts of Soweto.
