      Lots and lots going on today on Capitol Hill.

      In the Senate, an attempt by conservative senators to block gun debate is likely to fail. That means the Senate could vote on a gun bill that would expand background checks, toughen penalties for illegal sales of guns, and provide more money for school security. A vote could come as soon as 11am.

      1000EDT -- House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force chair Mike Thompson, fmr Rep. Patrick Murphy, and VoteVets.org Chair Jon Soltz hold press conference with fellow veterans from across the country to release a new survey, commissioned by VoteVets.org and the Center for American Progress Action Fund, "that shows veterans' views on gun rights and gun-violence prevention measures." They will also call on Congress to do more to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals. LIVE

      1030EDT -- Sens Blumenthal, Murphy, and Schumer join families of victims of gun violence to push for swift passage of legislation to improve the background checks system, make schools safer, and crack down on illegal gun trafficking. LIVE

      1130EDT -- The PICO Natl Network, a large grassroots faith-based org, along with other local religious groups, hold a 24-hr vigil at the Natl Mall to call on congress to vote on gun violence prevention legislation. LIVE via LiveU

      Also today on the Hill, there are several hearings on the President's budget proposals. Lots of folks on the left are upset with potential cuts to entitlements.

      A series of storms moving across the country causing flooding. Thunder and heavy rain being reported in many places. A possible tornado touched down near St Louis.

      Five firefighters are free at this hour after being rescued in a dramatic SWAT team raid that left the hostage-taker dead. A gunman took the firefighters as they responded to a report of a medical emergency in Suwanee, Georgia. Jonthan Serrie reporting.

      It's the 45th day of testimony in the Jodi Arias murder trial. Adam Housley reporting.
