• Color Photos of 1906 Quake

A museum volunteer at the National Museum of American History has unearthed the first - and possibly only - color photographs of San Francisco AFTER the earthquake of 1906.

These six never-published images were taken by famous photographer Frederick Eugene Ives.

Smithsonian volunteer, Anthony Brooks, discovered the photographs in 2009 while cataloguing a donation by Ives' son, Herbert.

The photographs capture the devastation experienced after the "Great Quake" nearly leveled the city.
