Happening Now in the Medical Ward

You might have noticed for the past couple of days I've been wearing a sling on-air during Happening Now. Many of our kind and concerned viewers have written in to ask what happened. The truth is, I don't know.

That is, I don't exactly know how I tore my rotator cuff and labrum...again. That's why I'm in the sling. I had surgery on Tuesday of last week and took the rest of the week off from Happening Now (though I did anchor the Fox Report on Friday night).

If I had to guess, I would say my injury resulted from one of two things: Either a wild, flailing fall I took while skiing-I do those all the time-or more probably, an event I remember a couple of summers back, when I was downhill mountain biking with my sons in Colorado. On a particularly steep section of trail, I hit a rock, flew over the handle bars, and tried to catch myself with arms extended. That hurt! It also taught me I should not try to keep up with my younger, stronger and more limber offspring.

I'm getting the reputation around Fox of being addicted to surgery. Not true. I just tend to beat myself up. Since the channel began, I've had three ACL reconstructions on my knees, one other major knee surgery, two carpal tunnel releases, now three rotator cuff repairs, and the fixing of one smashed finger (I dropped the tongue of a very heavy trailer on it). I don't like surgery at all, but I do appreciate the skill of my orthopedic surgeon, who fixes me every time I break myself. Being from Colorado, I tend to enjoy outdoor sports that have just a touch of risk attached.
