Want a particularly creative way of displaying small, shiny trinkets around your home? Try this fun, inexpensive project and add a unique touch of style to your home decor!
We went to Grace Bonney, editor of Design Sponge, who showed us how to tackle this DIY in the video above.
- Wooden Log
- Stemless Wine Glass or Jar
- Woodburning Tool
Cut a log slice for the base. It can be anywhere from one to three inches thick, but cut it flat so your objects can sit upright.
Flip your glass over and place it on top of your log slice. Trace a circle around the outline of the glass with your pencil.
Using the woodburning tool, burn a ring (over the circle you made earlier) into the wood. Instead of burning one solid line, burn individual dots next to each other to close the circle, and remember to trace along the INSIDE of the circle rather than directly over it. Stop every so often to fit the glass over the ring and make sure your shape is right. Once the circle is complete and you know the glass fits, trace over the dots with the woodburning tool to create one solid ring, until the wood is indented by 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch.
Fill your dome with small plants, keepsakes, jewelry — whatever!
