Woman Returns Nearly $2,000 in Cash Found in ATM

A woman did the right thing after she found nearly $2,000 in cash hanging out of an ATM.

Sunday afternoon, Adriana Allen drove up to an ATM at a Chase bank branch in Boynton Beach, Florida. "I had to stop at the ATM to get some cash out, and there it was! $1,800 waiting for me!" she chuckled.

Allen offered her theory about what she believed happened at the ATM before she got there. "Somebody was making a deposit, and I guess the money never went in, and it just got stuck there," she said. "I tried to push the money in. It wouldn't go in at all. I said, 'What am I gonna do now?'"

The bank was empty when Allen discovered the stash of cash. She said, "I had the money in my hand. I just looked around, there were no cars. I pulled my car up right in front of the bank, called 911. I waited until the police officer came to see if somebody was coming back to look for the money."

No one returned to the bank for the money, so Allen handed over the $1,800 to the officer. "I don't think I'm a hero," she said. "That's the way I was brought up. I believe in God, and I believe what goes around comes around, and that's the way it is. If you don't earn it, and it's not yours, give it back."

Boynton Beach Police has taken the money into evidence until Chase finds out to whom the cash belongs.
