We’ve seen extravagant tippers who enjoyed a great meal, and people who leave barely a dime for bad service.
But would you leave a big tip if your service wasn’t that great?
Makenzie Schultz and her husband Steven were dining out on their wedding anniversary, at a brand new restaurant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. According to Schultz, who posted about her experience on Facebook, the service “sucked.”
“Took 20 minutes to get water, 40 minutes for an appetizer and over an hour for our entree. People all around us were making fun of the restaurant & how bad the service was,” she wrote.
Instead of becoming irate, Schultz says she and her husband quickly noticed that the restaurant was severely understaffed and their waiter was responsible for 12 tables on a busy night. She did add the server was polite, despite his lack of speed.
Schultz, who stated that she and her husband used to wait tables, sympathized with their overworked server.
“I don't miss it at all and I never loved that job,” she said “I did it for the tips.” She and her husband then decided that it would make their server’s night to leave something a little extra.

According to the post, the couple left a $100 tip on a 66.65 bill --which amounts to a 150 percent tip.
Schultz, who did not mention the name of the restaurant or call out the name of server, claims she simply posted the image-- not for a “pat on the back”-- but as a “friendly reminder” to restaurant patrons that a little kindness goes a long way when you examine the whole situation.
To date her post, has received over 1.5 million likes and nearly 1,400 comments.
