Ram introduced its first diesel-powered light duty pickup this year, but some of its heavy duty trucks have been running without spark plugs for a quarter-century thanks to a partnership with engine specialist Cummins.
The first one hit the road in 1989, and that continuing collaboration is being celebrated with a special 25th anniversary upfit being offered for 2014 model year trucks.
It’s a pure appearance package sold through Geno’s Garage, and includes a Katzkin leather interior, floor mats, receiver hitch cover, red engine cover and exterior badges all branded with the 25th Anniversary logo.
Prices run from $2,195 to $2,395 depending on cab configuration, and installation is handled by certified Katzkin dealers across the country.
The first Cummins engine in a Ram Heavy Duty truck was a 5.9-liter inline-six-cylinder rated at 160 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The latest 6.7-liter pumps out up to 385 hp and 850 lb-ft and delivers a maximum tow rating of 30,000 pounds.
