On Halloween weekend, a Georgia community came together to celebrate Christmas early for a terminally ill girl, My Fox Atlanta reported.
Surrounded by ten Disney princesses, 5-year-old Dahlia Minton watched as her grandparents’ yard was blanketed in white by a snow machine.
“It’s amazing... she’s just touched so many people, everybody’s been following her story on Facebook and they’ve all just pulled this day together to make this day special for her,” Jeff Minton, her father, told My Fox Atlanta.
Dahlia has endured 5 bouts of cancer, including a diagnosis of stage 4 neuroblastoma childhood cancer at age 2. She’s gone through 10 rounds of chemotherapy, two stem cell transplants, and various surgeries. After a few months of remission, the family was told last week that there are tumors in the lining of her brain and bone marrow.
Doctors sent Dahlia home with hospice care.
The Butts County girl was a 2013 recipient of funding from Scarborough & Friends Foundation, which provides financial assistance to those with debilitating or terminal illness, and the Foundation, along with the Covington Police Department, gathered to bring Christmas to her early this year.
“You know she’s going through a tough time right now and we just we wanted to do something spectacular for her,” Officer Chris Smith of the Covington Police Department told MyFoxAtlanta.com.
“I just, I love the turnout; I love that so many people are loving on her. This is not about us, this is not about a foundation, this is Dahlia’s day,” said Sam Scarborough of The Scarborough & Friends Foundation.
Jeff had to quit his job because of Dahlia’s relapse, and the family has moved in with her grandparents. They’re accepting financial support for her final expenses through The Scarborough & Friends Foundation.
