Virginia Commonwealth University says it will notify about 300 students that they may have been exposed to tuberculosis.

VCU spokeswoman Anne Buckley says the action is being at of "an abundance of caution" after a student tested positive for tuberculosis. She said she could not release information about the student.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that Buckley said the extent of the exposure is considered insignificant but screening will be offered to people who may have come in contact with the student.

The university says school and city health officials will visit four classes to inform students and faculty of the potential exposure. An email also will be sent to all contacts.
