The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning about chicken jerky treats saying they may be associated with illness in dogs.

According to the FDA, there has been an increase in the number of dog illnesses reported in the past 12 months associated with the jerky products imported from China.

Although the agency has not identified a specific product, the statement says, "Chicken jerky products should not be substituted for a balanced diet and are intended to be fed occasionally in small quantities."

Warnings about this product started back in 2007.
