A 30-year-old woman from the U.K. told a court how her infant daughter died because she fell asleep, drunk, while breastfeeding, and the baby was smothered, The Daily Mail reported.
Emma Hector said she had not eaten anything when she drank almost a whole bottle of wine – and then proceeded to breastfeed her 7-month-old daughter, Naomi Rose.
Hector said her husband, Allen, found the dead baby. Allen Hector testified his wife’s breast was covering the baby’s mouth, which had blood in it.
The hearing took place at Bolton Coroner’s Court in Rochdale. Emma Hector was initially arrested, but charges were dropped.
“It is awful what has happened, and I am not proud of my behavior,” Emma Hector said. “No mother should be drinking at all. Since that day I have not taken one drop of alcohol.”
